Nintendo Switch 2
It’s finally here! and to Nintendo’s credit, it’s a huge step up coming from Switch 1: A much larger and crisp screen, a much more well-made frame compared to Switch 1 that does not feel like the Joy-Cons is constantly jiggling on the rails.
It feels like a refined, updated version of Switch of 2025 while still maintains a much smaller and slimmer profile comparing to other handheld console like Steam Deck and therefore still is a really awesome travel companion.
the Letdowns…
but it also just have too many letdowns to ignore. I’m just gonna list out my grievances on display here. This is by no means a “Do Not Buy Reason List” , but I absolutely think Nintendo CAN and SHOULD do better:
Non-OLED screen
Most of my devices are OLED now which makes the non-OLED display painfully obvious. Credit where its due, the LCD screen they use is not too bad: the backlight bleeding wasn’t too obvious, but that’s pretty much the only good thing I can say about it.
Still no direct USB-C display output
Two refreshes of Switch later (if you count OLED), we still don’t have proper USB-C DP Alt Mode support. This means you cannot simply use any USB-C dock and its HDMI output but instead you will need to bring your dock or a third-party one with you. Maybe EU should also just put this in their law …
Switch 1 Controllers Compatibilities
Excerpt from Switch 2 FAQ
You cannot exit sleep mode on Nintendo Switch 2 using the HOME Button on Nintendo Switch controllers such as Joy-Con and Nintendo Switch Pro Controller.
The Switch 1 controllers does work BUT it cannot Switch2 up. Specifically, you cannot hit the 🏠 button and wake it up which would be very annoying in docked mode. This is really just forcing people to buy a Switch 2 compatible controller and throw their perfectly fine controllers away.
